Carlisle born and bred, Nick is the Managing Director of Wragg Mark-Bell Solicitors. He is responsible for the overall management of the firm and is an expert in firearms law.
Nick’s Story
Carlisle born and bred, Nick studied law at Newcastle University and York Law School before qualifying as a solicitor in 1997. He has spent his entire working life in Carlisle, having been a pupil at Austin Friars School in the city. Before becoming a criminal law practitioner, and a fully qualified Duty Solicitor in 2003, Nick was an expert in personal injury law and was one of the youngest members ever to be accepted to the Law Society’s prestigious specialist Personal Injury Panel.
Nick further broadened his legal experience whilst dealing with matters before Education, Immigration and Employment Law Tribunals. Latterly, his focus has been on cases relating to firearms law, for which he is nationally instructed. Due to the combination of his legal management experience and his military qualifications Nick was invited to be a Member of the Chartered Management Institute in 2012. He has been a director with the firm since 2010 and Managing Director since 2015.

Nick enjoys finding solutions to challenges and overcoming difficulties. He is well known for his direct approach to problem solving and pretty much everything else in life. Carlisle clients have always appreciated this outlook and approach.
At play
Nick is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, and formerly Commanding Officer of Fourth Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment (the local Reserve infantry unit). Through the military he has gained a number of management and leadership qualifications and considerable experience. He has trained personnel from across Africa and the Middle East and has worked as an advisor to the United Nations on civil/military liaison and instructed at the Canadian Army Staff College on leadership.
When time permits Nick enjoys travelling far and wide and has visited six of the world’s continents. He aims to visit the last one in the near future! His hobbies include river rafting, trekking, cinema and obscure craft breweries.
Nick’s favourite Carlisle spots are the Thin White Duke for the occasional cold beer and anywhere with good pizza or curry. He is very lucky that from his office he can see the iconic Carlisle landmarks of the Castle, the Cathedral and Dixon’s chimney!
